Training

Professional Training

I attended Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego from 1996-1999, graduating Summa Cum Laude. This program involved over 2200 classroom hours and 990 clinical hours. Course tracks included Oriental Medical Theory, Herbology, Point Functions/Locations and Needling, Western Sciences (Anatomy, Biology, Pathophysiology, etc.), Massage and Nutrition. My clinical internship was done both at the Pacific College clinic and at the University of California San Diego Free Clinic. Pacific College trained me to function as a primary health care provider and to become an integral part of the modern health care system. Thus I am comfortable discussing your Western Medical diagnosis and coordinating care with your physician as necessary.

Following graduation at San Diego I travelled to China for 6 weeks of intensive post graduate training at Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This program involved work with patients on several wards: Rheumatoid Disorders, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, OB/Gyn, Acupuncture and Tui Na (Chinese Massage). I have found this training to be invaluable when working with patients suffering from serious diseases.

Professional Experience

I have been practicing in Fort Collins since November 1999. Shortly after opening my practice I was surprised to learn that no other acupuncturists in the area specialized in the treatment of pain, so that became my focus. I attended seminars presented by Dr. Richard Tan and Whitfield Reaves, practitioners both famous for highly effective treatment of pain. I have successfully used these advanced techniques in thousands of treatments.

Other areas of specialty training are respiratory disorders, rheumatology, and digestive disorders. I was also fortunate to collaborate with Jim Ramholz LAc, another noted acupuncturist and herbalist. Jim developed several remarkable herbal formulas. One of these, Headache Support, is by far the most effective herbal formula I have used in treating headaches and migraines. It has literally turned a number of my patients' lives around. Now they lead normal lives with far fewer and much less painful headaches.

At this point in my career I am asked to treat a variety of ailments. Pain is the most common issue: headaches/migraines, shoulder, neck and back pain, sports injuries, overuse injuries, and problems following motor vehicle accidents. Other patients come to me for help with colds or flus, asthma, menopausal symptoms, and stress. Acupuncture and herbal medicine are effective for a wide range of issues!
